my white german shepherd is doing very well on this, it does not appear to trigger his chronic pancreatitis and he loves the food
I bought both the canned and the dry to integrate into the diet of my white shepherd who has chronic pancreatitis issues. He loves both and so far so good, he is doing very well with them!!
My dogs loved this food! We used to have a prescription low-fat food and I was so annoying to have to always have my vet card to get the food and then I had to make sure to renew the prescription and with Square pet it’s so convenient and my dog loves the food and the food is great for his low-fat meat. I also compare the ingredients between this food and the prescription food and pet has better ingredients.
I am so thrilled to have found VFS Low Fat Formula. My pet LOVES it and eats every meal with enthusiasm. My dog had a mild but persistent bout with pancreatitis. His CPL enzymes were elevated, but otherwise, he was normal 6 out of 7 days. The dog food he was on was not an extremely high-fat diet, but VFS Square Pet Low Fat food (fingers crossed) has made a difference. In one week on VFS Square Pet Low Fat, his numbers are trending down. This formula is also chicken- and pea-free, which, for those with a chicken intolerance and in breeds where DCM is a concern, makes this food stand out among many prescription diets. My dogs love this food. I buy it because of the low fat content. I have one with pancreatitis.
Love this food! My pup has irritable bowel disease. My vet recommended ultra low-fat food. Since we have a doodle who can’t eat chicken this food is perfect.

This is one of the best foods on the market. I've done my research and been through many different brands. This is hands down number one.
So far this diet improves my dog's digestive issues. Have not been using it long enough to know if the improvement is permanent.

My dog got pancreatitis. I didn't like the ingredients of the dog food my Veterinarian recommended. I found your dog food online. She loves your food and the pancreatitis is under control because of its low fat ingredients.

I wan to say this food was amazing and helped our boy unfortunately the complete opposite happened. With the approval of our vet trying SquarePets Digestive we tried this food for 8 weeks and my dog began to have soft yellow stool (color of food ) we never got a spike stool in factwe had episodes of diarrhea and then he began to vomit. He had to visit ER vet Because his GI became so irritated and he was dehydrated. Vet has advised to transition away from the food at this point and now he is doing a lot better.
Our mini schnauzer, Murphy, loves this food.
April 2023: We have a 13yo Chinese crested with a predisposition to pancreatitis, chronic kidney disease abs DCM. She has been hospitalized multiple times, the last time she was put on Hills k/d kibble prescription. However we could not get her to eat it without mixing a spoonful of Gerber baby food, and even that was a struggle some days. She didn't like the wet food either. After countless hours of online research and reviews I came across this brand & decided to give it a shot. All the kidney diets or any quality food seem to fall at a similar price point. It's nice you don't need a RX, but more importantly our dog actually wants to eat it. The ingredients are simple, safe and good quality. Our dog was stage 3 in Dec, we had more boodwork to retest her kidney values in March and they have slightly improved. Not by much-- but the goal is to slow the progression of the disease and this food is clearly doing just that. We couldn't be more grateful for this company & their magnificent product. There are not a ton of options available and we are grateful to have found one to keep our sweet little girl around as long as possible!

Update: June 2025. We've been consistently feeding this to our little crested and she's still plugging along! She has a couple teeth left so I came to buy some of the canned version and thought I'd update this review. Our little trooper is well past her 15th bday now and enjoying life! Her levels have been regularly tested and she is still holding strong at stage 3 with no further decline. She is aging with grace but this food has undoubtedly been a key component in her continued health and longevity. Thank you Square Pet for making this specialty formula!
Update: April 2026. Our little girl is now months beyond her 16th birthday and doing well! Our vet calls her a little miracle--but we have to give credit where credit is due! We continue to regularly check her kidney levels and are pleased to see they have remained stable (similar to her prior testing). She wasn't a fan of the canned version- but that's ok! We order a 4 lb bag each time to ensure it's fresh. She somehow can tell the difference. It's the one food she will continue to eat on her difficult days when she doesn't want other prescription canned food or anything else. We have had to grind them up in the blender and mix them in with some gerber baby food at times. But when she can she prefers to eat them whole with the few teeth she has left. Again, we fall short on words to express our gratitude for the reliability, quality, and formula that has helped us enjoy more precious time with our love bug, and has undeniably extended her life and health span. Thank you again Square Pet!
Isla really likes this food and I am so pleased that it is low fat, as she has pancreatitis. She also has allergies and it was good to find a low fat food that is fish based. I am also using the kibble and both wet and dry are working nicely.
My only concern, like others, is the consistency of the canned food. Once it’s out of the can and mashed up it is terrific, but getting there is somewhat hard with these old, arthritic hands! However it’s all worth it in the end!

The formula is different from when we first started using this. If we could get somewhere in between it would be great. I am not a fan of this new texture. My dog eats it, but I honestly think she liked it the other way. I still have to add water, but I don't mind that because I know she is getting an adequate amount of water. Some of the cans have a big gap missing. Luckily only once in a while.
